Of immediate interest

Friends,

Keep in prayer Bishop Bradosky, Bishop Emeritis Paull Spring, and Pastor David Wendell who are in Rome.  On Thursday morning (about midnight our time) they will be meeting with individuals from the Vatican on Christian Unity.  Pray that their conversations will be fruitful.

We are planning to have our Mission District on November 5 at First, Paxton.

Pastor Carl Rasmussen and members of First Lutheran Church, Kirkland, will be attending the Congregation Redevelopment conference in North Carolina on Nov. 3-5.  He has told me that there is still room available.  If you are interested, please see the NALC website for information.  It is intended to help congregations with less than 150 average worship attendance to refocus on their mission and, therefore, to be energized on outreach and mission.  People who have gone have found this to be very helpful.  Again, if you are interested, check the NALC website quickly.

God's blessings,

Pastor Jim Lehmann -- provisional dean

You are invited

Immanuel, Thomasboro, has celebrated a mission festival for 136 consecutive years.  On September 11, we celebrate with Dr. Gemechis Buba as our speaker.  He will preach at the regular Saturday (5:00) and the Sunday (8:00 & 10:00) services.  He will also be preaching at the Sunday evening (7:00) worship service.  If you have heard him before, you know how great he is.  If you haven't, this is a wonderful opportunity.  Please join us as we focus our attention on the mission of the church around the globe.

Pr. Jim Lehmann -- Provisional Dean

P.S.  If you have special congregational events for sharing with the Mission District, please pass them on to me.

congratulations

Pastor Rich Tomlinson serves at Zion Lutheran Church, Philo, IL.  He is now part of the North American Lutheran Church.  Recently, he and his wife Amy became proud parents of their third daughter, Alice.  If you would like to welcome him to the NALC, his email is:  rjt813@gmail.com  Rumor has it that he has pictures on his Facebook page!

News

Friends,

On September 18, Rev. Michael Sculley will be installed at St. John Lutheran Church, 311 S. Jackson St., Flanagan, IL.  Worship is at 2:00 p.m.  Clergy are invited to vest and process.  Holy Communion will be celebrated.  Please remember him and St. John in your prayers.

Also, the Executive Council met today to extend a call for the position of General Secretary.  I think you will be pleased with the candidate.  Watch the NALC website for an announcement.

I have been in conversation with the Hahn Financial Group.  We will be planning a webinar for this fall so that you can hear about the health/pension plan for the North American Lutheran Church and Lutheran CORE.  We will schedule it for after the Executive Council meeting October 18-19.  I believe we will be endorsing this company at that time.  I think pastors and council members will be interested as they plan congregational budgets for 2012. Do you have ideas about when?  Weekday evening?  Saturday?  Let me know.
