Strategic Planning

On January 17-19, the Executive Council of the North American Lutheran Church meet for its regular meeting as well as spending a day for strategic planning.  In preparation, the council is reading The Millennium Matrix:  Reclaiming the Past, Reframing the Future of the Church by M. Rex Miller.  He creates a matrix of "How we believe," "How we know," "How we live together," "How we see beauty," and "How we work and trade."  He divides history into four categories:  ?B.C. -- 1500 A.D. - Oral-Liturgical; 1500 -- 1950 - Print-Reformation; 1950 -- 2010 - Broadcast-Celebration; and 2010 -- ? - Digital-Convergence.

We will discuss two basic question:  "What can we learn from this resource, The Mellennium Matrix, for shaping a strategic vision for the future of the NALC?  What are the major areas that need to be considered for the strategic planning session in January?

If you are interested in reading on what we are reading, the book is published by Jossey-Bass.  What are your thoughts on those two basic question?  Some food for thought and discussion.
